This movie delivers both amusement and genuine sentiments, focusing on a character named Maddie, who is played by Jennifer Lawrence.
Maddie is struggling with her finances and is at risk of losing her residence. One day, she comes across a peculiar job offer from wealthy parents. They wish to hire someone to "date" their reserved son Percy before he starts his college journey, to assist him in boosting his confidence and acquiring real-world experience.
Maddie agrees to take this job, motivated by her urgent need for funds (and their offer of a car). However, things do not go as planned. Percy, portrayed by Andrew Barth Feldman, is very shy, innocent, and awkward in social situations. Instead of enjoying a smooth romantic relationship, their time together becomes filled with amusing, odd, and sometimes touching encounters.
As time passes, they start to understand each other better. Percy gains self-assurance, while Maddie begins to reconsider her past decisions and mistakes.
In the end, Percy learns that Maddie was hired by his parents, which leads him to feel hurt and betrayed. This discovery ignites a profound emotional clash between them.
Ultimately, they find the grace to forgive each other and grow as individuals. Percy is ready to embark on his college journey, and Maddie decides to make progress in her own life.
